      “Wow! Look at all of these natural things for skincare, this is perfect”

Those were the exact words I used when I was at the soog (market) Omdurman in Sudan, my fathers’ country. My sister was in her wedding era and needed items as I explored in awe. Everything exists at an soog (sue-gh), sincr they are gigantic, and I eventually came across an entire section of pure, raw ingredients like shea butter, goat fat, and ….
 
By that point in 2018, I had already started making my own skincare products, but being in Sudan not only helped me tweak my then-current stuff, but also inspired more.

 Once i returned home, I went to working on the many ideas I formed, including the name (Saafia = ARABIC for pure, Goddess = my love for mythology and being a woman), and even a wig business in Sudan with a well known salah owner. Unfortunately that panned out, but everything else was doing well.

Fast forward a few years and now SGB is a great boutique with variety (after a long hiatus and a few changes). But the original homage to skincare, beauty, Sudan, and Blackness is still here, on the site, in the name, and of course, in the products.
     
Each piece here has a special meaning, especially the handmade ones, and hopefully when you shop Saafia, you’ll have your own special meaning too!
